Judy Sundberg
When Judy Sundberg began china
painting over thirty years ago as a way to relax while she was in
graduate school, she had no art background at all. At first, she
could not devote much time to it and even had trouble applying pigment
to the slick surfaces.
But she stuck with it and after a few years of "puttering around", she began to attend china painting classes. She was fortunate to study with some of the leading teachers of the time, including Mary Petusky, Grace Moss, Helen Humes, Frances Braxton, and Jane Marcks. She has also studied with contemporary teachers such as San Do, Barbara Jensen, Christine Whittler, and Phyllis McElhinney, and recently completed a seminar with Ricki Nishi. She is a member of
International Porcelain Artists and Teachers, Inc.,
the World Organization of China Painters and the World Organization of
China Painters Teachers. Judy also serves as second vice
president on the Board of the Florida World Organization of China
Painters.
Judy works on all kinds of pieces --frames, trays, plates, mugs, and tiles --and enjoys painting flowers, landscapes, birds, and portraits. Four of her works have been chosen for display at the WOCP porcelain museum in Oklahoma City. Her porcelain paintings have also been exhibited in libraries and civic offices in both Jacksonville and Augusta. She has been featured in magazines devoted to porcelain painting. Judy is currently teaching porcelain painting classes in Jacksonville, Florida. Judy Sundberg Porcelains:
